Kinja'd!!!

After a few rounds of exchanging "refurbished" Nikon D600s with filthy sensors, I decided to bite the bullet on a new D610. It has been almost three weeks since I've had a working camera and I'm just happy to be shooting again. I'll really be able to put this one through its paces when I head down to New Orleans for Mardi Gras at the end of the month.

Nice! I'm hoping I'm one of the lucky ones with the D600. So far no spots...

Is it just like the 600?

BTW, have you played with any of the new mirrorless models? This is my Sony A7 next to my D600.

may I extend an early welcome to New Orleans? I hope you enjoy your time and soak in everything you can. If you see a black e39 m5, honk twice and I'll know it's you! lol

Thanks! I live up in Shreveport and I work remotely for a company based in Metairie so I'm no stranger to New Orleans. It has been about 3 years since I've been down for Mardi Gras so I am really looking forward to this trip.

The D610 is identical to the D600 except for the shutter mechanism (that is what cause the dust/oil issues on the 600) and it shoots about 1.5 fps faster in continuous high speed mode. I would have stuck with the 600, but the company I ordered from sent me three units in a row with dirty sensors and I just got sick of dealing with the process. $1300 would have been a steal for a refurbed D600 had I ever received a clean one.

I've not played with any of the mirrorless options yet. I've been tempted, but I have some really good glass for my Nikon and I would hate to have to rebuild a similar collection for a mirrorless. How is the A7?

What glass do you have?

The A7 is pretty dang neat. FX sensor and it's so small. I've got to spend more time with it to get good and comfortable. I'm so used to Nikon that it's taking a little bit. Plus, I'm only using my f-mount glass for now. The wifi is pretty cool function. I can beam picts straight to my phone. I really hope glass prices drop because I really want this to be my travel camera.

I did get a nice little F to E mount adapter. The camera is set to A-priority. Focus is manual but the camera has focus peaking.

It take some nice images.

I have a Sigma 50mm 1.4 prime, Nikon 12-28 4.0 , Nikon 24-85 2.8, and Tanron 70-200 2.8. The a7 looks like it has great image quality. How's the focusing system?

I use an Eye-Fi card and it works pretty well. I can sync my camera with my phone and the app will add geotags and upload my RAW files to my computer at home and back everything up to the cloud. It chews through data, but I leave it set to upload over WiFi only.

Eye-Fi, huh? That sounds sweet! I'll have to look into that.

I can't speak to the A7's focus since I don't have an e-mount lens. I hope to get one in a few months. Birthday coming up.

I've got a Tamron 28-75 2.8 and 70-300 4-5.6, Nikon 50 1.8, rokinon 14mm fisheye, Sigma 10-20 4 (it's an old DX).

I've been looking at getting two old Nikon AI lenses. The 24 and 50 1.4.
